Your Financial Foundation

"The only reason many American families don't own an elephant is that they have never been offered an elephant for a dollar down and easy weekly payments."
- Mad Magazine
Although we may not literally own an elephant, most Americans do have the figurative elephant purchased with a low down payment and easy payment options. Is your elephant a car you can't really afford? A gaming system or other technology that was offered at a deal "too good pass up"? Maybe just a dinner out that didn't really fit the budget but was an easy answer for a tired family.
Easy credit and sometimes unrealistic optimism about future income has fed our desire for those "elephants". We tell ourselves we can make this one exception or that we can afford the payments.
Too many of these purchases cause financial distress and keep us from achieving our goals.
